Back Garden Wedding Inspiration – Vintage Themed Wedding

Are you planning a relaxed, back garden wedding? Then look no further than this wonderful wedding. When Kat and Dave announced their engagement and decided to book me, I was so excited. I’ve known Kat for about 10 years and have watched her grow up. To be asked to be a part of the wedding was a huge honour for me. These two are also incredible cool and so I that I knew it was going to be a lot of fun. They did not disappoint. They gave me so much time and space to be creative. They put so much care into planning their photography and into me and I loved being able to use their space to create interesting portraits.

They decided that they wanted to hold a back garden wedding with a super relaxed feel and so choose Dave’s parents farm as a location. There was a lot of space and is surrounded by the most beautiful views. In the UK, couples can only legally marry in registered locations and under cover. Kat and Dave decided that they didnt want that and so paid a visit to Hanley Registry Office to seal the deal a few weeks prior to their date. This is becoming a more popular option for couples who want to have more flexibility with their wedding location. Have a look at this article for more information on planning an alternative ceremony with a celebrant.

Their outdoor wedding ceremony was so beautiful and very emotional. Kat wore an incredible wedding dress by Claire Mischevani with additional colour detailing. Her maids wore lavender, custom made dresses in various different styles. The flowers were a mixture of delicate white and purple blooms to match the home made lavender crown that Kat wore. The boys were in grey suits with cute dickie bows and transformers inspired button holes.

The reception was held in a marquee on the farm. It was decorated with hessian, flowers, glass bottles and more transformer figures. They had a huge ‘naked’ wedding cake, covered in delicious fruit and topped with a white chocolate cake topper.

So what are the benefits of planning a relaxed, back garden wedding rather than a more traditional wedding venue?

  • The biggest benefit of having a wedding like this is that you get to call the shots. You will have full control over the structure of the day and the parts that you do or don’t want to include. Weddings historically have a lot of tradition attached to them, but if you’re not too keen on that then you can pick and choose what you want to include
  • It’s personal. Being able to get married in a location that you have grown up in is really special and adds to the sentimental feel of the day.
  • You can choose who marries you. If you decide to go for a back garden wedding, then you’ll have organised the legal parts of your marriage before the day. This means that anyone can marry you! You can choose a celebrant, who will create a personalised ceremony, or you can have a friend or family member conduct the ceremony. As nice as registrars are, having a personal relationship with the person who is marrying you is all the more special.
